WindUpdates is an adware component from CDT, Inc.

The following is quoted from windupdates.com's EULA which was available on the vendor's web site 14th November 2004: "WINDUPDATES.COM SOFTWARE APPLICATION LICENSE AGREEMENT .. WINDUPDATES.COM HAS PARTNERED WITH VARIOUS COMPANIES SUCH AS 180 Solutions .. search page will be changed .. an accessory tool bar will be added to my web browser which will remain visible as long as the software is installed .. and agree that I wish to use your search engine for my web browsers auto search option and default error page .. this software will automatically update itself from time to time once installed .. bookmarks that may lead to content of an adult and/or sexual nature will be added to my system .. from time to time promotional offers from our sponsors will be displayed .. any other toolbars you currently have visible will be deactivated .. You grant WINDUPDATES.COM permission to add/remove features and/or functions to the existing software and/or service, or to install new applications, at any time, in its sole discretion with or without your knowledge and/or interaction .. You also specifically agree to abide by the Software Licensing Agreement and Terms and Conditions of Golden Palace.com, n-CASE Privacy Policy, BetterInternet End User License Agreement and Bargain Buddy License Agreement .. Uninstall WindUpdates with FreeFixer

I'm working on a general purpose tool for removing unwanted software. The manual removal instructions listed below will help you to identify what to delete with FreeFixer.

Manual removal

Please follow the instructions below if you would like to remove WindUpdates manually. Please notice that you must follow the instructions very carefully and delete everything that is mentioned. In most cases the removal will fail if one single item is not deleted. If WindUpdates remains on your system after stepping through the removal instructions, please double-check by stepping through them again.

  1. Start your computer in safe mode.
  2. Start the registry editor. This is done by clicking Start then Run. (The Run dialog will appear.) Type regedit and click OK. (The registry editor will open.)
  3. Browse to the key:
    'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run'
  4. In the right pane, delete the values called 'Windows AdTools', 'Windows AdTools', 'Windows SyncroAd', 'AdTools Service', 'Windows AdService', 'DeskAd Service', 'Admilli Service', 'Windows AdStatus', 'Admanager Controller, 'Windows FormatAd', 'Preview AdService', 'Media Pass', 'Windows ServeAd', 'AdStatus Service', 'Information Update' and 'filesharingcenter_AdStatServInstPack.exe', if they exists.
  5. Exit the registry editor.
  6. Start Windows Explorer and delete:
    %ProgramsDir%\Windows AdControl\
    %ProgramsDir%\Windows AdTools\
    %ProgramsDir%\Windows SyncroAd\
    %ProgramsDir%\AdTools Service\
    %ProgramsDir%\Windows AdService\
    %ProgramsDir%\DeskAd Service\
    %ProgramsDir%\Admilli Service\
    %ProgramsDir%\Windows AdStatus\
    %ProgramsDir%\Admanager Controller\
    %ProgramsDir%\Windows FormatAd\
    %ProgramsDir%\Preview AdService\
    %ProgramsDir%\Media Pass\
    %ProgramsDir%\Windows ServeAd\
    %ProgramsDir%\AdStatus Service\
    %ProgramsDir%\Information Update\
    %SystemDir%\filesharingcenter_AdStatServInstPack.exe
