   Introduction

Kephyr Search Deskbar is a tiny text field toolbar floating on your desktop, designed to make fast searches from any application without moving your fingers from the keyboard. Press Ctrl+Shift+K and the deskbar will activate, enter your search in the deskbar, press enter and a regular Google search will open in your web browser. You can of course configure Kephyr Search Deskbar to use launch searches from any search engine, such as AltaVista, AllTheWeb, Ask Jeeves, GigaBlast, HotBot, LookSmart, Lycos, Msn Search, Yahoo Search, WiseNut, etc.

Kephyr Search Deskbar is in an early stage of development yet not offering a considerable number of features, but there are some that are under development and might be well worth mentioning. The first feature is the calculator; type calc 6 * 7 / 10 * sin(45) and the deskbar will evaluate the expression. The calculator can handle many complex mathematical functions, such as sin, cos, hypot, log10, etc.

The second feature under development is the Kephyr SearchStart, a web service that compile links to the most popular search engines, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other valuable resources allowing you to enter them with a single mouse click. For example, type k Ludwig van Beethoven and a web page with direct search links to encyclopedias and search engines will open.

The third feature allows to open a URL directly from the deskbar; type g download.com and the deskbar launch a browser window with download.com as the start page.

Kephyr Search Deskbar is freeware and Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP compatible.

   Operation and Privacy Statement

Kephyr Search Deskbar does not update itself automatically, nor will it download new updates and ask you to install them. If you wish to install a new version of Kephyr Search Deskbar, which will be released from time to time, you must do so manually by uninstalling the old version, downloading the new version and install it. It is of course voluntary to install updates. You can use the old version as long as you like.

Kephyr Search Deskbar is not and will not be bundled in any software package.

Kephyr Search Deskbar will not send personally identifiable information to any party, unless you have voluntarily chosen to do so.

Kephyr Search Deskbar does NOT connect to the Internet. Instead it will launch your default browser with an URL to handle all communication with the Internet. The browser communicates with the server using a HTTP GET request which allows you to see what data is sent from the client to the server. The URL will not contain more information than necessary to carry out the service that Kephyr Search Deskbar offers. For example, if you make a search for "Bazooka" and have Google as your search provider, the URL will look like this: http://www.google.com/search?q=bazooka. That is, the URL does not contain more information than necessary to perform the search.

This operation and privacy statement does not govern Kephyr SearchStart. Please read its privacy statement here.

Please notice that it is out of my control how the third party search providors operate their search services. You might want to study the privacy statement for the search providor you have chosen.
