MagicControl
Overview
MagicControl, also called TROJ_MAGICON, Trojan.Simcss, W32/Downloader.Persis and Win32/Magicon.A,
is a downloader Trojan that carries a payload that terminates some firewalls and anti-virus products. It works on
Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000 and XP systems.
It has been reported to install Instant Access Dialer.

Uninstall procedure
Uninstall MagicControl from "Add/Remove Programs" in the Windows® Control Panel.
Look for entries called 'mc', 'wintrim', 'navpmc' and 'wincomp'.
Uninstall MagicControl with FreeFixer

assistance while uninstalling MagicControl. The manual removal instructions
listed below will help you to identify what to delete with
FreeFixer.

Manual removal
Please follow the instructions below if you would like to remove MagicControl manually. Please
notice that you must follow the instructions very carefully and delete everything that is mentioned. In most
cases the removal will fail if one single item is not deleted. If MagicControl remains on your system
after stepping through the removal instructions, please double-check by stepping through them again.

Start the registry editor. This is done by clicking Start then Run.
(The Run dialog will appear.) Type regedit and click OK. (The registry editor will open.)
- Browse to the key:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run'
- In the right pane, delete the value called 'cpntmgc'.
- In the right pane, delete the value called 'MC'.
- In the right pane, delete the value called 'mslagent'.
- Browse to the key:
'HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run'
- In the right pane, delete the value called 'cpntmgc'.
- In the right pane, delete the value called 'MC'.
- In the right pane, delete the value called 'mslagent'.
- Exit the registry editor.
- Restart your computer.
- Delete the following directories:
%WinDir%\mc\
%WinDir%\wintrim\
%WinDir%\wincomp\
%WinDir%\winmgts\
%WinDir%\navpmc\
Note: %WinDir% is a variable (?). By default, this is C:\Windows (Windows 95/98/Me/XP) or C:\WINNT (Windows NT/2000).
